Slow-Motion Freestyle - Vinh - 4-Oct

2012 Canadian Masters Swimming Championships May 18-21 Kelowna BC

This year's championships were held in the beautiful new H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre. The 50m pool was divided into a 25m deep end race tank and a warm-up/cool-down shallow tank. BEAST had a showing of one, but here's some video of the "Friends of BEAST":

Rick - 50m Back (Heat 2, Lane 6) - with an excellent swim of 1:01.54 Rick placed 2nd.

North York Gators - 4 x 50m Freestyle Mixed (Heat 5, Lane 3) - with swimmers Kosta (27.79, Heather D (31.19), Heather B (31.73) and Todd (27.76) for a time of 1:58.47 and 4th place in the 120-159 age group.

Rick - 50 Fly (Heat 1, Lane 6) - 1:12.50 for 4th place.

Todd - 50 Fly (Heat 7, Lane 2) - 30.95 earned Todd a 3rd place podium finish.

Kosta - 50 Fly (Heat 10, Lane 6) - Kosta swam a brilliant 29.42 for 4th place.

Heather B - 100 Breaststroke (Heat 9, Lane 4) - a fast 1:28.95 took Heather Binto 2nd place.

Heather D - 100 Breaststroke (Heat 11, Lane 4) - 1:24.39 and a National title for Heather D.

Eric - 100 Breaststroke (Heat 9, Lane 6) - Eric smashed is previous best time with a 1:22.13 to take 3rd place.

Calgary Clippers - 4 x 100m Mixed Medley - with lead-off swimmer Gail doing Backstroke, Hobe on Breastroke, Helen on Butterfly and Rick swimming anchor in Freestyle. In the 20-239 age group they finished 9th with a time of 6:14.05

Eric - Aurora Ducks - 4 x 100 Freestyle Mixed (Heat 1, Lane 4) - Dorothy finishing off the lead-off leg followed by Eric swimming a 1:08.25.

Men's 45-49 100 Fly (Heat 5) - Lane assignments: Todd 7, Mike 5 and a guy named Deke in 4 (who is rarely in the frame). Mike swam a fantastic 1:03.81 for 2nd and Todd pulled off a great 1:15.21 for 3rd. But who can keep up with a 45 year old like Deke who can swim 56.78 (Canadian Record). Just FYI, Deke took 3 seconds off the previous 100 FL record set in 2009 by Alex Baumann. He also took away the 200 Fly record from Alex by 7 seconds with a 2:10.72 ... and a 2003 50 FL record with his 26.45.

2012 Ontario Masters Swimming Championships

2011 EOMAC Semi-Serious Swim Meet - All the details

There was a great head-to-head competition between Issa and Don in four of the events: 100 and 200m FS, 100m BK and 100m IM. The result was a two-all tie ... but Issa came very close to winning the 100m BK too ... as she had a solid lead going into the final length. The next meet in Etobicoke will be exciting ...

18-Oct-2008: Brantford Fall Sprint Splash

The team had an absolute blast down at Brantford! With lots of 25's and 50's it was a very fast paced meet, tons of action and a relaxed atmosphere for swimmers new to competition. Thanks to Sarah, we had a cow bell on hand to let everyone in the pool know that BEAST swimmers were in the water.

View the Brantford Meet Results: by BEAST Swimmers and BEASTS by Event. **NEW** Full Results for Women and Full Results for Men + Relays are now available.

Ian definitely wins the team's "Most Phelps-ian Award" - six events, six First Place. Nice work! Congrats to all, especially for those who swam in their first Masters meet.

Click to see a few photos of the meet.

Check out some of the video from the event:

4 x 50m Medley Relay - featuring two BEAST teams. In Lane 2, BEAST was lead off on Backstroke by Judy, then Susan - Breaststroke, Cat - Butterfly and finally Gen swimming Freestyle. The second BEAST team was in lane 6, Backstroke - Sarah, Breaststroke - Dave, Butterfly - Ian and Annic - Freestyle.

25m Backstroke - Heat 2 featured three BEAST swimmers. Lane 1 - Pat, Lane 3 - Bruce and Lane 5 - Judy. By winning the heat, Judy won the coveted Aussie Pink Cap.

25m Breaststroke - Heat 2, Lane 2 Pat - classically hamming it up for the camera and crowd.

25m Breaststroke - Heat 3 - Lane 2 Dave, Lane 3 Bruce ... and winner of the Quote of the meet ... Dave to Bruce as they stood on the blocks "So what are we doing this time?". Now as much as we might enjoy that quote ... it was a good and timely question to ask. Note that the guy beside Pat in her 25m Breast heat obviously didn't think to ask!!

25m Breaststroke - Heat 4 - Lane 7 Gen, Lane 8 Susan ... and it was a clean start!

19-Sep-2008:

The Brantford Fall Sprint Splash is only one month way! We'd like to get as many BEAST swimmers as possible at that meet as a team outing and experience. We can all swim 25m!! And block starts aren't even required.

Read the September Newsletter from Masters Swimming Ontario. The letter has a great article on Lane Etiquette. As our club grows and we start swimming circles, that topic becomes much more relevant.
